WHY WE DO IT

In the next 18 years up to 31% of Canada’s total population will be made up of immigrants. Seven in 10 immigrants report a language other than English or French as their mother tongue. - Statistics Canada

Homes don’t come with owners’ manuals. And homeowners don’t always know how home energy systems connect to their comfort or their health. In many of Canada’s diverse multilingual and multicultural communities, this means families are living with high energy bills, damp or drafty homes, and even mould, mildew or leaking gas.
Information and services are out there to help families like these improve the health, safety and performance of their homes. Local governments, businesses and utilities simply haven’t found a way to effectively engage these communities.

Empower Me is a trusted source.

Many newcomers to Canada have lived in countries where corruption is a normal part of life. Based on their experience of relationships between government and civilians in their home countries, it makes sense that new Canadians would eye civic relationships here with suspicion. Like anyone, immigrants are most likely to readily accept information from a trusted source.

Empower Me has become that trusted source, acting as a bridge between underserved communities and the main stream.

Become a Mentor
“Empower Me helps new immigrants access the rewards of actively managing their energy use. We aspire to have this information become part of the fabric of the community so that everyone is empowered to make changes for their own and their family’s well being.”
