Congratulation! You have just received your Canadian citizenship! Besides being able to travel to over 160 countries with no visa required upon arrival, you can finally participate in the Canadian democratic process with your newly granted voting rights. With over 70 ridings won by less than 5% of the vote in the last 2015 federal election, your vote MATTERS.
Here is a step-by-step guide for first time voters:
Confirm Your Eligibility
You have the right to vote if you are: 1. A Canadian citizen; and, 2. At least 18 years old on election day.
Register to Vote
You can go online to check whether or not you are already registered. If you haven’t registered, you can register yourself as an eligible voter on Election Canada Online Voter Registration Service.
Skip the Line!
You can vote NOW at any Elections Canada offices before Tuesday October 15th, 6pm. Too far away? You can also vote at an advance poll at your assigned polling station from 9am to 9pm from October 11th to 14th. Find your advance polling station HERE. Alternatively, you can vote on election day October 21st to feel the election spirit!
Bring your Paperwork
Remember to bring either your government ID or your voter identification card and other accepted IDs to the polls.
