By Kambo Admin | British Columbia, Community, Energy Efficiency, Sustainability | 0 comment | 17 July, 2019 | 2

With high gas prices and new technology, Electric Vehicles (EVs) are becoming more common around the world. Are you in the market to upgrade your gas-powered vehicle to an electric one? Well, you are at the right place! Even if you are not quite there, here are five little known facts about EVs:

Gas price fluctuates? No problemo!

Gas prices fluctuate, A LOT. Want to keep an eye on your budget?  By switching to an EV, you can save more than $2,000 on gas annually in British Columbia.

Low maintenance

Not only do EVs save you money on gas, they also save you time and hassle. EVs are designed to have fewer moving parts in comparison to gas-powered vehicles. It means fewer trips to the mechanic and no oil changes!

Let's go further!

Worry about your EV running out of power? There are now more charging stations than ever. The City of Surrey operates 18 FREE public charging station, and the City of North Vancouver offers four Level 2 charging stations for a small fee, with one DC Fast Charging Station free to use until further notice. Click HERE to find public and private electric stations near you.

You can also install an electric charger in your home. Although ZAPBC rebate program has ended, you can waitlist for a free home charger in 2020 HERE.

EVs are more affordable than EVER!

The provincial and federal governments both offer incentive programs for EV purchases. With more used options available and financing for new EV purchases, EVs are becoming more affordable than ever. Here is a list of government incentive programs you can take advantage of:

BC SCRAP-It Program: The province of BC is offering $6,000 incentive to trade in your old gas-powered vehicle for EV. Spots are limited so get yours ASAP!

CEVforBC Vehicle Incentive Program: The BC government is also offering $3,000 incentive for EV purchases, in addition to BC SCRAP-It Program.

iZEV Program: The federal government is providing up to $5,000 incentive for EV purchases.

Some EVs are eligible for multiple funding, click HERE for more details.

ZERO emission

Did you know that EVs emit ZERO greenhouse gases? Although there are emissions associated with the production process, EVs reduce your carbon footprint in the long run.

In most gas-powered vehicles, only 16% of fuels are converted into powering your vehicles, and the remaining fuels are lost in the process. In comparison,  EVs convert 76% of electricity into driving!
